Eithne George: Session Speaker – Energy Democracy: People’s Control Over Power and Water Supplies
Eithne George is a founding director of Sharenergy Co-op, one of the leading organisations in the UK supporting the generation of renewable energy societies.
Sharenergy supports community led generation across the technologies, including wind, solar, hydro and biomass. Prior to this she worked on ‘greening the growth agenda’ in Cambridge, working closely with planners, developers, architects and utilities providers to help create urban extensions to the City that would set new standards nationally for design and sustainability. Part of this role involved developing energy and water policies for the built environment, including Code for Sustainable Homes Level 5 for the large, University development known as North West Cambridge. In addition, she is co-author of the Cambridge Sustainable Drainage Guide. After leaving university, Eithne was a founding director of The Hub, in Islington, which provides hot desking space for a network of social entrepreneurs. There are now 77 Impact Hubs worldwide.
