I came to co-operative living and working in the mid-90s via eco-activism, Cornerstone Housing Co-op and the Radical Routes federation of co-ops working for radical social change. I still live in Cornerstone, work for Footprint Workers’ Co-op and have helped found several co-ops as social enterprises, campaigning organisations or community development projects, all with the aim of eventual financial self-reliance. I co-authored the Radical Routes publication ‘How to Set Up a Workers’ Co-operative’ and am currently working on updating ‘How to Set Up a Housing Co-operative’.

I am a trained facilitator for Carbon Conversations

I have created and advised groups & co-ops with all kinds of legal structures – Societies, Companies, Community Interest Companies and unincorporated associations, with and without charitable objects, grant-dependent and self-reliant. I enjoy working with collectives and non-hierarchical groups, looking at participatory democracy, accountability, communication and co-operative working skills. I’m particularly interested in how values and social goals can be embodied in the legal structures and the culture of co-ops, both to encourage and reinforce activity towards them and to maintain group cohesion and identity.
