CBC would like to thank all speakers and workshop leaders for their high quality contributions to last Friday’s conference, attended by over 100 people.
“The Conference proved a very effective sounding board for the many voices who have views differing from the high command currently of the Co-operative Group.” Graham Melmoth
“Congratulations once again on the conference, which has had a very positive impact both on the debate on Saturday and on the media coverage.” Patrick Gray
“It was a great opportunity to debate how we are going to collectively address the current ‘crisis’ by drawing on our combined and extensive experience of cooperating. Mauro Lengo of Legacoop, Italy, offered an international perspective, bringing the new ideas to the table and comfort in the acknowledgement that other around the world are struggling with similar problems to our own. Sir Graham Melmoth, former CEO of the Cooperative Group, offered an insightful critique of the Groups governance issues, advocating for member participation in deciding the best ways forwards. These presentations were supported by inspiring contributions from Jo Bird and Patrick Gray, honest reflections from Med Hiller MP and hope for the future from Jamie Risner and Rosie Evered of Students for Cooperation.” Kiri Langmead
“Thank you for organising yet another excellent conference. I was personally delighted by the speakers you had invited. Sir Graham Melmoth of course was the true Co-op stalwart who is proud of having led the organisation in better times. I also felt the speeches by Iain Macdonald, former Director General International Co-op Alliance and Mauro Iengo from Legacoop were very telling and resonated with my long held views that the business needs to look for lessons learnt and advice from outside the UK on improving its governance.” Zainul Sashak
“Ways Forward 2 – a great success. There was again a great variety of good contributions and the sense that some important things had been said. Well done Jo in particular, Martin for chairing, Bob and Phil for workshops, Karen for AV and workshops, Tiziana for covering the day in two languages, and anyone else involved.” Nick Money
“Many thanks for organising an inspiring conference. It’s easy to get trapped in circular arguments inside the Co-operative Group so it was refreshing to attend Ways Forward 2 before the AGM and I think it helped in seeing beyond the ‘take it or leave it’ dilemma mentioned in the keynote address.” Callum Johnston
“Great conference Jo. Any chance it could be an annual event?” Dan Crowe
